The North East Entrepreneurship Machinery & Innovation Exhibition (NEEMIE)

PRIME hosted the North East Entrepreneurship Machinery & Innovation Exhibition (NEEMIE) from September 20th to 22nd, 2023. Over the span of three days, NEEMIE brought together machine manufacturers from across India, transforming Meghalaya into the epicentre of entrepreneurial innovation. The exhibition, which is a first of its kind in the state, encompassed a diverse range of sectors, including food processing, packaging, handloom, renewable energy, waste management, and tourism, offering a comprehensive platform for entrepreneurs to explore cutting-edge machinery and technologies.

A standout feature of NEEMIE 2023 was the “Popular Talk” sessions held on September 20th and 21st. Esteemed industry experts from various domains shared their insights and knowledge, equipping entrepreneurs—particularly those from small-scale industries—with valuable information about the latest machinery and technology relevant to their sectors.

Approximately 40 exhibitors, hailing from both Meghalaya and other parts of India, actively participated in the event. NEEMIE 2023 drew a remarkable audience not only from Meghalaya but also from other states, showcasing a genuine interest in the showcased machines and fostering lively exchanges of knowledge and ideas. The networking opportunities at the event were invaluable, laying the foundation for future collaborations and partnerships that promise to drive innovation and growth within the entrepreneurial community.

What set NEEMIE 2023 apart was its practical impact. Entrepreneurs and state departments actively purchased various machines, underscoring the event’s role in facilitating access to the latest tools and equipment essential for business ventures.

The inaugural day witnessed the presence of Shri. Conrad K. Sangma, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya. In his address, he emphasized the pivotal role of machinery in entrepreneurship. The Chief Minister stressed that machinery should align with the specific needs and requirements of entrepreneurs. He called upon grassroots manufacturers to conduct thorough research and find innovative solutions tailored to the unique demands of small-scale industries. To support this vision, he announced the state’s plans to establish technology hubs, similar to incubation centres, allowing individuals to borrow or rent equipment, particularly benefiting those who may lack the means to purchase such machinery.

As NEEMIE 2023 concluded on the third day, the Executive Director of the Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA) honoured exhibitors with mementoes of appreciation and recognition. The closing ceremony featured a motivational speech celebrating the entrepreneurial spirit and innovation. It underscored the pivotal role of exhibitions like NEEMIE in fostering economic growth and empowering small-scale industries.
