PRIME Meghalaya organized a Filmmaking and Photography workshop on the topic of ‘Pursuing Independent Filmmaking and Photography’ on 14th August 2023 at the PRIME hub in Shillong. The workshop was conducted by Amit Madheshiya, an award-winning Indian documentary filmmaker who has won at Cannes, and a World Press Photo-winning Photographer (2011).
The workshop saw the participation of numerous aspiring filmmakers and photographers from across the state.
During the workshop, Madheshiya shared insights from his journey, discussing how he began his career as an independent filmmaker and photographer. He offered thoughtful advice on what aspiring filmmakers and photographers should do to achieve success in their independent pursuits.
He also provided a list of things that young aspiring filmmakers should consider when venturing into indie filmmaking. This included connecting with funding agencies and grants that offer support and mentorship for filmmaking. Madheshiya emphasized the value of collaboration in independent projects as a way to bridge skill gaps.
In terms of crafting creative film proposals, Madheshiya urged the youth not to rely solely on the internet, as this process requires time and thorough research.
